The Military Aviation Museum will host a new event this year. Virginia Warbird Weekend (June 19 and 20) will feature a squadron of vintage military aircraft from around the world. Visitors will not only be able to see the aircraft up close, they will also observe these aircraft in flight over the airfield.

Not to be confused with Warbirds Over the Beach, this new program will bring a WWII airfield to life and feature the museum’s world-class collection of WWII aircraft.

Advance tickets, which are 10 percent lower than they will be during the show days, are on sale now and can be purchased online through the museum’s ticket vendor (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virginia-warbird-weekend-tickets-151081656301). Kids 5 and under are free. In addition, World War II and Korean War veterans and one guest receive free admission, special parking, and seating in a designated veterans’ area. (Preregistration for WWII and Korean War veterans is requested at https://forms.gle/vG1xNdxU294gasR4A )

The Military Aviation Museum says this will be a safe, socially distanced, outdoor event packed with family fun for all. Gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Flying demonstrations will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day both Saturday and Sunday.

Keegan Chetwynd, executive director, said, “This year, our focus is on celebrating the special connection between our Hampton Roads community and Naval Aviation. Guests will be able to enjoy demonstrations of some of WWII’s most famous fighters and bombers.

Demonstrations will also include aircraft designs from over 100 years ago, at the birth of Naval Aviation. You will also enjoy 1940s-style entertainers along the flight line as you watch an unrivaled collection of military aircraft in action!”
