Chairman’s Monthly Message | March 2026
Greetings Fellow VAHS Members,
March has been a very busy month. I have several good news items to report.
First, a reminder that the VAHS will hold our annual membership meeting on Saturday May 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Horsefeathers Airport (53VA), 9669 Green Road, Midland, VA. Horsefeathers is a sod strip located in beautiful Virginia countryside reminiscent of the early days of aviation.
All VAHS members and their families are invited to attend. Admission is free. Members should plan to attend the VAHS business meeting 11:30-12:30. Other than that, you are welcome to spend as much time as you like at the event.
Attractions and Entertainment:
– VAHS archives and Hall of Fame displays
– VAHS Hall of Fame guest speakers
– Vintage aircraft static displays including Commemorative Air Force warbirds
– Airplane rides
– Free tethered balloon rides
– RC aircraft demos
– Moon bounce and hay wagon rides
– Irish dancers
– Live music
– Comedian
Food and Beverages:
– Food trucks
– Wine and beer bar
Fund Raisers:
– Silent/live auctions
– Raffles
We need ten volunteers to help with event setup/takedown, directing automobile traffic, and silent auction and raffles.
It is preferred and recommended that fly-ins land at Warrenton-Fauquier Airport (HWY), 1533 Iris Trail, Midland, VA and use provided transportation to/from Horsefeathers (six miles).
Please mark your calendars and plan to enjoy the day and support the VAHS. I look forward to seeing you at Horsefeathers! More information will follow as we get closer to the event date.
Please rsvp to VAHS Administrator Sue Baker at vahsonline@gmail.com by April 25. Please also indicate if you will volunteer to help.

Second, the VAHS set up three Hall of Fame (HoF) displays in March at Warrenton-Fauquier Airport, Hanover County Municipal Airport, and at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. (See Hanover Airport display attached.) There are now 32 HoF member photographic portraits on display at locations where they have/had a connection with the local airport or community. In the next few weeks, eight HoF portraits will go on display at Waltrip – Williamsburg Airport and the existing display a Stafford Airport will be enlarged. When that work is completed, 48 HoF portraits will be on public display. All 150 HoF portraits will be on display at regional airports statewide within the next two years. These displays will appropriately honor VAHS HoF members and keep the memory of them and their accomplishments alive for posterity.
Lastly, we moved all of VAHS precious artifacts and document archives from a hangar at Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg to a clean, climate controlled, well lighted Extra Space Storage unit in Massaponax, Virginia 3 miles south Fredericksburg at exit 126 off I95. The move will save VAHS $145 per month on lease costs.
Hope you all are able to get out and enjoy the early spring weather.
Best regards,
Richard (Dick) Genaille
Chairman, VAHS Board of Directors
