VAHS NNMP Chapter Meeting March 16, 2023 – ALL WELCOME!
“Fairfield Foundation and Vintage USDA Images” a presentation, on March 16, 2023
11:30 AM, Pilot House Restaurant @ Hummel Airport
On Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 11:30 am at the Pilot House Restaurant, Topping, Virginia, the Northern Neck-Middle Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society (VAHS) will host staff representatives from the Fairfield Foundation, Nathaniel Glasgow and Rachel Boyd, who will give a presentation focused on their recent acquisition of hundreds of vintage aerial images of this region.
The Foundation is mounting an ambitious project, to be fueled by volunteers, to scan and make the resource accessible to the public at its website. Dating back as far as 1937, the images capture the houses, farms, crossroads, racetracks, ball fields, wharves and more from a bygone era–an intimate and detailed glimpse into the past. Historic features like houses, ditches, tree lines, roads, buildings and cemeteries can be used to learn more about historical sites as well as broader landscape changes.
Join us to see examples of many familiar sites and learn more about this fascinating project. The Fairfield Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, promoting and involving the public in hands-on archaeology, preservation, and education activities within the Middle Peninsula and surrounding areas.
The chapter continues to meet on the third Thursday of each month at 11:30 am for lunch and a presentation of informative aviation programs. Everyone interested in aviation is invited to join the members at the Pilot House Restaurant adjacent to Hummel Airport on Route 3 in Topping, VA. Future planned programs will be announced.
