Fauquier Hospital staff honored Friday with a 10-biplane flyover
Nine World War II style biplanes and one Decathlon delighted the staff of Fauquier Hospital Friday morning with a flyover to celebrate Hospital Week.
Pastor Tim Tate of the Warrenton United Methodist Church thought of placing signs outside the hospital to thank health care workers and the idea blossomed from there. Tate and his colleague Carl Chapman even hitched a ride.
Warrenton Methodist Church member Mike Shankle helped to organize the event. He said that seven of the pilots are associated with The Flying Circus in Bealeton and the others are with the Mid-Atlantic Stearman Association.
The planes flew in formation over the hospital, then circled back for another run. The Decathlon used circling smoke to make a heart in the sky.
Shankle said the pilots were happy to take part in the special event. “Social distancing is easy up there,” he said.
